A Wild Charmander Appears!

Hello internet!
I am back, I've been in hiding. I started this project in April, and I just finished it!

I am so proud of it. It's made of 139 classic granny squares. I used a chart that I drew. I'll post a proper pattern and the chart later, so stay tuned!

Fall Hat Pattern

Hello internet!

I seem to have writer's block in the form of amigurumi (cause that totally makes sense). Every time I make an ami, I end up not liking it enough to post it for you guys. So I decided to take a break and try something else!

Here's what I came up with:

Super cute, super slouchy, and a scalloped edge and a bow to make it more feminine.

What You Will Need:

-No more than 150 yards of medium weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease in rose heather and dark rose heather.

-A 5.00 mm hook. If you crochet tightly/loosely, you may want to adjust your hook size accordingly. I crochet somewhere in the middle.
-A button for the center of the bow. Mine is 1.5 in in diameter

Notes:
For this pattern, I used my own version of a puff stitch to make it less bulky.
My version is:
--Yo, insert hook through next st, pull up a loop, yo, insert hook through next st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all loops on hook. Ch 1 to finish off.--
Also, for the stripes, I changed colors every five rows.
Lastly, when I say "in next stitch" I mean the space in between puff stitches.

Finally, the pattern:
1. Ch 3, 6 dc in first ch, sl st to join
2. Ch 2, (1 puff st, 2 puff st in next st) around
3. Ch 2, (1 puff st in next 2 st, 2 puff stitch in next st) around

X-Men Amigurumi! (Cyclops, Phoenix, Magneto)

Hello readers!
For a long time, I've loved Marvel. Spiderman, Thor, Iron Man.... but especially X-Men. I was extremely excited for the new X-Men: First Class movie (which did not disappoint, by the way! Seriously, go see it.), so I made these. They used my basic body pattern here:

The only changes I made were to add gloves/boots by changing colors.

(Excuse the weird lighting, I had to take this in a hurry)

Other notes:

Phoenix/Jean Grey's phoenix emblem was cut out of felt, and her hair made out of some more worsted weight yarn.

Cyclops/Scott's helmet is as follows:

1. Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch

I'm not sure of the exact number for his glasses, but here's how I did it (it's mostly guessing and checking):

1. Ch x. X being the number of stitches it takes to reach across his face.

2. sl st until you get to where you want the actual glasses part to be, double crochet y stitches (y being how wide you want the taller part of the glasses to be), sl st to end. Fasten off.

I surface crocheted the outline of the red part, and then filled it in with embroidery.

Free basic amigurumi body pattern

Here's a basic body pattern for you to try out. It's very flexible, so you can turn it into anybody (or anything!) you'd like.
Also, I will be putting up a prototype pic soon, but for now, here's an example:

What You Will Need:
-Less than 100 yards of yarn of your choice. I use worsted weight typically for my amigurumi, but you can experiment with different weights and textures. You could use thread to make a teeny tiny ami, or super bulky to make a larger one. Make sure your yarn is of a smooth texture (that is, no bobbles, texture changes, or general weirdness).
-A crochet hook. For amigurumi, I use a hook one size smaller than the suggested size for my yarn of choice. I do this because I crochet at an average tension, if you crochet loosely, you may want one even smaller, or if you crochet tightly, go for the suggested size.

Three, Two, One, Go!

Legs (make 2):
Start by chaining 3
1. Sc 6 in second chain from hook
2. 2 sc in each sc around
3-13. Sc around (11 rows)
Fasten off.

Body:
1. Pinch both legs together at the top, and join with a sc. Place marker. Sc around to the last 3 stitches of the first leg, and then join to second with another sc. Sc to marker.
2. Sc around
3. (Sc 4, inc) around
4- 13. Sc around (10 rows)
14. (Sc 3, dec) around
15. (Sc 2, dec) around

Stuff with polyfil stuffing.

I crocheted Link (didn't improvise this time, the pattern is from Nerdigurumi). Mm-hm. Here he is:

Free Pattern: Baby Unicorn!!

It's finally here! It took me quite a few tries to get this pattern going, but it's finally done. 

This pattern is made with quite a few little pieces, and the legs can get a bit fiddly, but the end result is worth it. Enjoy!

Free Pattern: Narwhal Ami

So here's a narwhal pattern. Because who doesn't love narwhals? I named mine Ernest. 

It's an easy pattern, you just need to know how to increase, decrease, crochet in the round, and sew pieces together.

Fasten off. Fold a super thick pipe cleaner into quarters and use instead of stuffing to make his tail pose-able. Sew to body.

Fasten off, sew to head.

Finishing:
Embroider a face onto Kyo, weave in all ends. And you're done! Make sure not to feed him leeks!

Free Pattern: Howl!!

What You Need:


Yarn:
~One or two ounces each of flesh color, black, white, and pink worsted weight yarn.
~Less than one ounce each of yellow and royal blue worsted weight yarn
~A very small amount of gold thread and blue sport weight yarn
~One or two ounces of yellow yarn (this will be his hair, so you can use whatever weight you want.)

Hooks and Notions:
~A 5.00 mm hook (size H) (note- this is a smaller size than what they call for on worsted weight yarns, but I like it to keep my stitches smaller so stuffing doesn’t show through later. If you crochet really tight, go ahead and use a 5.5)
~A 3 mm hook
~A 4 mm hook
~5.5 mm straight knitting needles
~Safety eyes or a hot glue gun (tutorial below)
~Yarn needle

~If you don’t know how to knit, don‘t worry about it- the coat pattern can easily be converted to crochet.

Reattach white to top right corner of the little flesh colored triangle we made earlier.
Sc, sc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc. On bottom tip, work 3 sc. Sc, sc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc. This creates the collar.

Weave in all your tails!


Eyes:

For the eyes, you could just use safety eyes, but this is what I did:
Put 2 dollops of glue, the same size (this could take some practice) on a piece of wax paper. Once they’ve cooled and hardened, peel them off and color them in with a black sharpie. Once it’s dried, put on another coat of black. After a little while, put two coats of clear nail polish on them to make them look more professional. When you’re ready to attach them, carefully hot glue them on. Make sure none of the glue shows on the doll.

Hair:

Wrap your yellow yarn widthwise around a book (mind was 6 inches across) until it is about 2.5 inches across and ¾ inches deep. Sew a seam up and down the yarn (lengthwise on the book) making sure to include every piece. Flip the book over and cut the yarn (lengthwise on the book again) so that you have the seam in the middle of two longer side pieces. Sew it on to the doll (the seam is his part) and give him a haircut!

Howl’s Coat:

Body of Coat(knit):

With 5.5 mm knitting needles and pink yarn, co 43 stitches. Work in straight stitch for 24 rows.
25. K2tog, k to last 2 stitches, k2tog
26. P
27. K2tog, k to last 2 stitches, k2tog
28. P
Bind off

With a 5 mm crochet hook and yellow yarn, sc all the way around the body of the coat. At the corners, work 3 sc.

Diamonds (make 2):
Ch 1, turn at end of each row

With 5 mm crochet hook and royal blue yarn, ch 3
1. Sc across
2. 2 sc in each st
3. Sc across
Alternate:
(2 sc in next st, sc to last 2 stitches, 2 sc in next st)
And
(Sc across)
Until you have 10 stitches

Sc across
Alternate:
(Dec, sc to last 2 stitches, dec)

Until you have 2 stitches
Dec, sc
Fasten off

Sew diamonds onto sides of coat.
I secured the coat with a few stitches in the front of Howl’s shirt.

Sleeves(knit):

With yellow worsted weight yarn, cast on 20 st
1. K
Attach white
2. P
3. K
4. P
Attach yellow
5. K
Attach pink
Work in st st for 20 rows

Sew to body of coat with stripes at the bottom.




Howl’s Necklace:

With a 3.5 mm hook and gold thread, ch 60, hold it around Howl’s neck, and sl st in first ch.
With a 4 mm hook and blue sport weight yarn, Ch 2
Sc around for 2 rows
Attach to gold ch

 I love how this pattern turned out! It's very easy to adjust if you need a bigger or smaller size. Enjoy!

What you will need:
A small amount of worsted weight yarn in green or red
An even smaller amount of worsted weight yarn in brown and dark green.
A 5.5 mm crochet hook

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern:

BLO- back loop only
sl st- slip stitch

Hat:
Ch 2 with main color
1. Work 11 dc in first ch, sl st to join
2. Ch 2, (dc, 2 dc in next st) around, sl st to join

4. Ch 2 (dc in next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next st) around, sl st to join
